Beccarino Cakes & Pastries

Picky Girlfriend and Fussy boyfriend were around the Tanjong Pagar area and thought of heading to our usual muffin store only to find that it was closed for weekend! As we were still having the muffin crave and our intention to buy some light bites for picnic! And surprisingly chanced upon another muffin store that looks really potential!

The first thing that attracted us was actually the price of the muffins. Each muffin was only sold at $1! Yes, almost impossible to believe but it was definitely true! And the 2nd thing that strike us was there were advertisements for TV variety shows and it was one of the Muffin winner!

A box is provided with every purchase of 6 muffins

It was a pity as there were only selected flavours left, if not we would have bought and tried more! Let's see what we have ordered :)

We tried a few flavours such as double chocolate chips, blueberry with cheese, coffee with mixed nut, banana, pandan raisins, raspberry.

And the ones that really stood out (our personal preference was banana chocolate chips and blueberry with cheese)!

Do not belittle the $1 muffin, you will expect to find more surprise than expected with the generous serving of the ingredients!

Fluffy muffin texture. We were really surprised to find this at the end of the muffin. The blueberry was still so moist and juicy (even we didnt eat it immediately after purchase) which gave the last bite a sweet ending :)

Both Picky girlfriend & Fussy Boyfriend rating for Muffins : 4/5

There are actually so much more flavours available, you may check out their website here! $1 per muffin is definitely worth it, suitable for parties or just when you needed some light bites!

PS: Bringing muffins is a good picnic idea that is easy to store and fuss free! As all the photos are taken outdoor, the natural lighting is awesome! We love the photos and hope you enjoyed it as much as we do :)

D'pastry Durian Puffs

Everyone should try this pastry that is made from The King of Fruits - Durian! So Picky Girlfriend and Fussy Boyfriend will introduce a durian puff which is yummy and definitely a good find as it is very affordable!

D'Pastry durian puffs!

Located at Ubi, this was quite an unexpected find as we were just around the area trying to find some offices and chanced upon this. And it was seems to be the case where we were lost and ended up finding good food instead! And other than durian puffs, Ubi is really the place where most of the wholesalers are located, so be expected to get the food items at a wholesale rates!

The durian puffs are packed in 6 a box and really suitable for sharing. Well but if you are a super durian lover, 1 box may not be enough. And since we don't really go to this area, we bought a few for our families to try and they love it!

At only $3.60 per box, this was really quite a bargain taking into considered the quantity and quality! :)

We love the fact the durian puffs are slightly bigger than bite sized and also how generous the durian filling was. You know how some of the durian puffs are usually pumped with durian cream instead, this one is really different as you will be able to taste the real fruit!

Just pry the puff open and you can even see the durian fibres just like what you have in the real fruit! There also other flavours available such as mango puffs, you may want to try them too!

Both Picky Girlfriend and Fussy Boyfriend's overall rating for durian puffs 4.25/5

DIY Hum Jin Pang 中国街咸煎饼

If you love Hum Jin Pang (Salted/Sweet fried buns), you should go to this stall at Maxwell market! Both Picky Girlfriend and Fussy Boyfriend have heard lots about this as this is the store where you can DIY your own Hum Jin Pang!

So we were finally here and there was a long queue. Just in front there were 2 ladies (believed from Taiwan) holding on to their Singapore guide book, and all eager to try DIY frying the hum jin pang! So probably this has been one of the highlights for SG food.

This was really an interesting concept we must say. On one hand, the stall holders were able to keep continue making the dough and threading them and customers get to have a little fun too! Of course, this keeps the cost low too, so why not? :)

Just fry till it's golden brown, and you can start scooping them up! Quite an experience, but you must be fast, otherwise the store owner would just scoop them up before you do to avoid over-frying!

(Pardon the quality of the video, we had to reduce this by alot as blogger only allows max. 100MB file)

Enjoy the video, just grab the long chopsticks and start frying! :)

The final end product, at a super affordable rate of 6 pieces for just $1!

We were totally eager to try as Picky girlfriend has been busy frying them and Fussy Boyfriend taking the photos and video too. We ordered both the salty and the red bean version for trying and the piping hot hum jin pang tasted nice (we really think DIY-ing helps in enhancing the taste somehow!)

Both Picky girlfriend and Fussy Boyfriend's rating for DIY Hum Jin Pang: 3.5/5
(Rating is 4/5 if you include the fun of DIY frying the hum jing pang! =P)

Chocolat 'N' Spice Muffins 晶品美食西点

Hello everyone, hope the week has been good so far :)

Have you been following up the special deals on FOOD that we've been posting every now and now in our facebook page here?

To continue, it was a random afternoon and both Picky Girlfriend and Fussy Boyfriend were off food hunting again. This time to hunt for yummy MUFFINS! And this was the one that Picky Girlfriend could recall at the top of her mind at Tanjong Pagar area while she was doing temp jobs years ago and was introduced by her colleagues.

Check out the queue during lunch time!

And there were actually 2 other outlets as follows:

There were lots of different flavours of muffins sold and we were really spoilt for choice! Imagine having to decide the flavours amidst the muffins fragrance that lingered at the shop!

Popular flavours: Chocolate Chips, Double chocolate, Banana Walnut, Orange Peel Raisins, Cheese, Blueberry, Coffee Walnut and Mocha

And finally after queuing for approx 15mins, it was finally our turn!

Spolit for choice!

Business must been really brisk, just check out how many boxes have already been prepared to pack the muffins!

And finally, we bought assorted lots of muffins including Chocolate chips, Cheese, Blueberry and Banana Walnut!

A little pity that Double chocolate was out of stock, so we will be back to try it again :)

Muffins priced from $1.20-$1.50 (depending on flavours)

The muffins really tasted awesome! The moment we bite on it, it has this slight crisp at the top and the inside was fluffy and soft. Freshly made muffins from the oven is really different and a very satisfying snack, and totally goes well with a cup of coffee/tea :)

Since we bought such a big box of muffins, Picky Girlfriend gave some to her nephew/niece and they finished it all at a go! Kids don't lie, so you can believe that it's really good. We love the fact that the muffins still tasted nice even though it was consumed after a few hours of purchase!

Both Picky girlfriend & Fussy Boyfriend rating for Muffins : 4/5

Tips:
  • To avoid the crowd, avoid buying muffins during lunch time!

Mr Bean Pancake

The place that Picky girlfriend loves their soya bean ice-cream! and this time they have new flavours for their pancake. So of course, as usual us being curious, we tried the new flavours!

Check out the new flavours - Milo Lava, Caramel Custard and Egg Mayo.

So we tried the first 2 flavours as egg mayo will seem too filling! all the pancakes look the same at the exterior so what makes the difference is really the filling. We wanted to be adventurous and ordered something really out of the usual (eg: redbean and kaya). So here's what we tried:

Milo Lava pancake $1.50

We loved the way how the filling is warm and oozes out from the pancake. So be cautious not to scald yourself when eating this. The filling is quite generous and Fussy Boyfriend being a super milo fan felt that this tasted just right and not too sweet.

Picky Girlfriend however felt that this would be a slight disappointment for super chocolate fans as the milo lava filling is not too "chocolatey" as expected!

And this flavour is only here for a limited time only till 31st Oct. They have other milo variants such as Icy Milo Soya which we did not try. If anyone of you has tried, let us know whether is nice or not! :)

The next one we tried was Caramel Custard Pancake (the name itself sounds very tantalizing!)

Caramel Custard Pancake $1.50

When we took the first bite, both picky girlfriend and fussy boyfriend had the same reaction. It tasted like....

MacD's hotcakes!

Not sure why, but it really tasted similar to that so Fussy Boyfriend loved it especially he is a very pastry-kind-of person! Picky Girlfriend felt it was a tad too sweet for her liking though. Overall pancake is soft and fluffy.

Picky Girlfriend's Rating for Mr Bean pancake: 3/5
Fussy Boyfriend's rating for Mr Bean pancake: 3.25/5

How to get there:
Available at all Mr Bean Outlets, you can find the various stores' location here.
