328 Katong Laksa

Laksa is a dish in Singapore that needs no further introduction and probably one of the must try dish for tourist. Laksa has thick coconut gravy with bee hoon topped with prawns, fish cakes, chilli and laksa leaves! And despite this being one of the famous national dishes, Fussy boyfriend pointed out that after food hunting for so long, we have not blogged anything on laksa before - WHICH IS TRUE!

So we decided to blog this as this was the first laksa place we thought of! And is also a good choice as it's really shiok to drink the laksa soup on rainy days!

The laksa is actually quite well known for their way of eating - the thick bee hoon has already been cut short so that you can savour this dish using just a spoon together with the gravy and ingredient, and nothing else, no chopsticks, no fork. So just be prepared!

And when a particular food is famous, there will always tend to be a group of people selling the same food, and this is one of them as we spotted at least 3 stores selling laksa on the same stretch.

Laksa comes in 3 different servings (small, medium and big)

The place also houses both outdoors and indoor (air con) seats and the place is really hard to miss as it's really plastered with alot of photos on celebrities and famous people coming to eat laksa here!

Waiting time was really fast before the piping hot laksa was served to us. Fussy boyfriend loves to have it in it's original flavour (ie: without chilli!). And Picky Girlfriend's version was something like the below and adding extra chilli anytime she wants! :)

So Picky girlfriend really loves the fact that the the chilli is always placed at each table, so reachable and you can put as much as you want! :)

The chilli was really fragrant and adds an extra oomph to the laksa soup base! Another thing that we love was the fact that the prawns have already been cleared off its shells and the intestines which made it really easy to eat.

The soup was so good that we finished it to the last drop. It has the sufficient coconut taste we were looking without being too "jelat" and of the right thickness. The first thing that strike us on the gravy was the strong taste of hae bee (dried shrimps) and we love it!

To add to what we were already having, we added otah which serves as a good complement to the laksa. Yummy otah was wrapped in banana leaf, and otah in banana leaf always seems to taste better for some reason. Dip it with laksa gravy makes it taste yummier too!

Picky Girlfriend and Fussy Boyfriend's rating for laksa: 4.25/5
