Nakhon Kitchen (Serving Authentic Thai Food)

A relatively new place we spotted - Nakhon Kitchen which serves authentic Thai food. Always wanted to try this since the queue is perpetually long. Curiosity got the better of us so here we are joinng the queue as well!

Very packed! We had to queue for 15-20 mins before getting a table.

Since this is our first time here, so we ordered those items that we felt were a must try when it comes to Thai food! The menu wasn't that helpful since there were no pictures at all. The moment we saw the menu we knew the reason behind the long queues. Prices range from $5 onwards which was very affordable for Thai food!

So all relying on our instinct, we ordered the following:

Phad Thai ($5)

The glass noodles is of the right texture, neither too hard nor too soggy. This is also less oily as compared to others we have tried before. Healthier choice! Comes with tau kua, beansprouts and prawns which were quite fresh. Mix well with peanuts and chilli flakes to give the extra flavour to it!

Tips to eating Phad Thai, request for sugar! This is the authentic way of eating Phad Thai in Thailand and we tried it and loving it :)

Both Picky Girlfriend and Fussy Boyfriend's rating for Phad Thai: 3.25/5

Pineapple Fried Rice ($6)

Pineapple fried rice was really so-so. Has ingredients such as mixed peas, chinese sausages, raisins and prawns topped with pork floss which gave the rice a light sweetness. Overall there were too much sweetness to the rice and pineapple taste was evidently lacking in this dish.

Picky Girlfriend's Rating for Pineapple fried rice: 2.5/5
Fussy Boyfriend's Rating for Pineapple fried rice: 3/5

Tom Yam Clear Soup ($6)

This is really a MUST TRY for people who are fans of spicy food! Do not be deceived by the clear outlook, it is spicy and sour all at the same time!

Ingredients include various types of seafood such as prawns, fish, squid and mushroom. Picky Girlfriend loves this as the soup really gives you the kick (especially on rainy days). Fussy boyfriend however felt that the sweetness of the seafood has been covered by the spiciness of the soup.

Picky Girlfriend's Rating for Tom Yam Soup: 3.5/5
Fussy Boyfriend's Rating for Tom Yam Soup: 2.75/5

Pandan Chicken ($6)

The Pandan Chicken was rather tender but tasted more like satay chicken that overpowered the taste of this dish. The leaves were easy to remove which was probably why the chicken did not absorb the pandan fragrance well enough.

Sweet chilli dip save the day!

Sweet chilli dip managed to save the dish a little but the chicken has thick chicken skin that came together with it which was quite a turn off. Would have tasted better if skins are removed.

Picky Girlfriend's Rating for Pandan Chicken: 2.25/5
Fussy Boyfriend's Rating for Pandan Chicken: 2.75/5

Green curry ($8)

Another MUST TRY! The green curry has a strong fragrance of lemongrass and coconut. Texture is thick but yet very appetizing that you can eat on its own! A dish that will make you go" MMmmmmm!" :)

Main ingredients include long beans which are very crunchy, eggplant and chicken pieces.

Picky Girlfriend's Rating for Green Curry: 3.5/5
Fussy Boyfriend's Rating for Green Curry: 3/5

Red Ruby

Last one to end the post off for desert that we tried. Reb Ruby - simple desert with jackfruit and red rubies top with coconut milk and shaved ice. The red ruby was lacking crunchiness and the usual water chestnut taste and tasted more like jelly instead. Not worth the price paid for this. $3 for a bowl. Fussy Boyfriend was too full to try this!

Picky Girlfriend's Rating for Red Ruby: 1.75/5
